Sterling Silver VB
Contemporary Jewellery Design only uses sterling silver 925 thousandths. Sterling silver tarnishes overtime, especially when exposed to salt air and products containing sulphur. In order to maintain its brilliance, it is advised/we advise to polish your sterling silver with a silver jewellery cloth made from high quality cotton impregnated with silver cleaner and anti-tarnish agent. Once cleaned and polished, sterling silver jewellery must be kept dry and properly stored.
It is the only precious metal to possess a yellow colour in its natural state. Unaffected by air and moisture, gold jewellery retains its original luster for years. It is also the most malleable metal. Because of the ductility of gold, other metals such as copper and silver are added to strengthen it, creating an alloy. VB Contemporary Jewellery Design uses 750 thousandths gold composed of 75% gold, 125 thousandths of copper and 125 thousandths of silver.
It is a gold alloy to which small quantities of palladium have been added to give it a luminous white sheen. The metal’s natural gray matt finish takes on a brilliant sheen once a thin layer of rhodium metal has been applied, heightening the sparkle and whiteness of the gold.
The 750 thousandths pink gold used by VB Contemporary Jewellery Design is made up of 75% gold, 20% copper, 5% silver.
As a precious metal, it is used almost pure in a 95% alloy (950 thousandths). Platinum is unaffected by air and moisture, once a jewel has been created, it will retain its original form forever.
Pearls are living substance that are particularly delicate and sensitive to solvents and which require a very special care. They are sensitive to acid, dryness, and humidity. If cosmetics are worn: perfume or hair spray, it is advised to put these on at least 10 minutes before wearing your pearls. When taking off your pearls, wipe them with a soft lint-free cloth. The cloth can be dampened with water or it can be dry. If damp, allow the pearls to air dry before putting them away.
Mother-of-pearl is produced organically inside seas shells. It consists of a blend of minerals secreted by oysters and other marine creatures to protect their bodies from parasites and foreign objects. As for pearls, mother-of-pearl fears perfume and body lotion, which can alter its iridescent matter.
