Product care

Following the traditions of the fine jewellers before us, VB only ever uses the highest quality materials. Each creation is a delicate product that requires special care and attention. To guarantee its original brilliance and beauty, it is advised to remove your jewellery:

  • during sporting activities, on the beach, at a sauna or Turkish bath
  • when performing household tasks that may cause jewellery to come into contact with corrosive products
  • when gardening or carrying out DIY activities
  • when washing your hands

Your jewellery should be stored in its original box or pouch to protect it from shocks or scratches. Avoid storing more than one piece of jewellery in the same case, as they could become scratched by rubbing against each other.

Our Materials

Hallmarks are small markings stamped on silver, gold and platinum articles. A hallmark means that the article has been independently tested and guarantees that it conforms to all legal standards of purity (fineness). It indicates the precious metal content of the article, and that it is not less than the fineness indicated. Since 1999, all finenesses are indicated by a millesimal number.

Sterling Silver

VB only ever use Sterling Silver 925, the highest grade of silver available. Overtime Sterling Silver will tarnish, especially when exposed to salt air and products containing sulphur. In order to maintain its brilliance, we advise to polish your sterling silver with a silver jewellery cloth made from high quality cotton impregnated with silver cleaner and anti-tarnish agent. Once cleaned and polished, sterling silver jewellery should be kept dry and properly stored.

Yellow Gold

The only precious metal to possess a yellow colour in its natural state, unaffected by air and moisture, gold jewellery retains its original lustre for years. It is also the most malleable metal. Because of the ductility of gold, other metals such as copper and silver are added to strengthen it, creating an alloy. VB Contemporary Jewellery Design uses 750 thousandths gold composed of 75% gold, 125 thousandths of copper and 125 thousandths of silver.

White Gold

White gold is an alloy to which small quantities of palladium have been added to give it a luminous white sheen. The metal's natural grey matt finish takes on a brilliant sheen once a thin layer of rhodium metal has been applied, heightening the sparkle and whiteness of the gold.

Pink Gold

The 750 thousandths pink gold used by VB Contemporary Jewellery Design is made up of 75% gold, 20% copper, 5% silver.

As a precious metal, it is used almost pure in a 95% alloy (950 thousandths). Platinum is unaffected by air and moisture, once a jewel has been created, it will retain its original form forever.

Pearls are living substance that are particularly delicate and sensitive to solvents, so require very special care. They are sensitive to acid, dryness, and humidity. If cosmetics, perfume or hair spray are worn,  are worn: it is advised to apply them at least 10 minutes before wearing your pearls. When taking off your pearls, wipe them with a soft lint-free cloth. The cloth can be dampened with water or it can be dry. If damp, allow the pearls to air dry before putting them away.

Mother-of-pearl is produced organically inside seas shells. It consists of a blend of minerals secreted by oysters and other marine creatures to protect their bodies from parasites and foreign objects. As for pearls, mother-of-pearl fears perfume and body lotion, which can alter its iridescent matter.
